Petrus Van Schendel was born in Terheyden, Belgique on April 21, 1806.

Recognized was a painter of in sequence and biblical scenes, portraits pointer genre scenes, most notably those where he depicted the thing of candle light and idle light. He studied with Assortment. Van Bree at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts use 1822 to 1828.
